MEET KAREN

I AM.  Daughter, sister, mother, friend … woman.  Loving life and living out loud!  Living from my heart and leading from my intuition.

An ICF certified leadership and retreat coach, author, radio show host and community volunteer who is passionate about blending ancient wisdom with modern practice.  Moving into right-brain and playing with light and shadow (that may be the amateur photographer in me).

My work and passion are about conscious living, i.e., the power of intention, the law of attraction, and knowing that staying the path of success is as much about being as doing. Groups and individuals have expressed appreciation of my intuition, enthusiasm, and practical strategy to illuminate their strengths, maximize their human potential, and co-create their life of success and balance.

After obtaining my degree in psychology from Vassar College, I spent two years in commercial banking on Wall Street then eight years successfully managing new product development and merchandising for Avon International before I realized I wanted to be independent. (Several of the products I created more than twenty years ago are still successful brands.)

Two years as director of Public Relations and New Business for a large New York real estate marketing firm prepared me to run my own business.  I did just that as a Broker in NJ, until relocation to Chicago and the birth of my daughter transformed my life.

The desire to start my daughter's philosophical and spiritual education early on lead to the creation of LightYears Children, Inc.- which successfully served parents, schools and librarians with multicultural books and activities for young children in Chicago and then North Carolina. I translated this desire for literacy and children into the position as Director of the non-profit, Reach Out and Read (ROR) - fully funding and overseeing nineteen branches and countless volunteers for this successful national non-profit organization.

My desire to serve was strong, so I entered one of the oldest and largest ICF accredited coach training programs, Coach University (CoachU) and begin to build my practice as a professional coach and consultant.

I LOVE my life and practice as a leadership and retreat coach.  My desire to learn, grow and enhance my ability to serve my clients has me back at CoachU in the advanced coaching program pursuing higher ICF credentials, and, attaining my retreat coach certification with the Retreat Coach Network.

I am a life-long-learner and learned to appreciate my struggles as life-lessons and, with help, transformed them into personal successes.  For example: I grew through the anger and pain of my parents' divorce; overcame discrimination and created a valuable real estate investment; transformed my own divorce into positive parenting with my ex, and continue to enjoy the joys and lessons of an open adoption.

In addition to my professional studies, for my thirty-fifth birthday I created a vision to learn a new skill at each significant life milestone.  Since then I have: progressed to level II Kripalu yoga, taught myself FrontPage, earned membership in the A.C.C.S. Tai Chi lineage, received American Red Cross First Aid Instructor certification, and earned the SSI Master Scuba Diver certification.

As a Master Scuba Diver, I know that it is important to breathe, and I do so by sharing gratitude for my personal success and love for the environment with my community.

To maintain my life balance I enjoy reading, biking, hiking, yoga, scuba diving, photography and creating success and balance for my daughter and myself.
